a quiet day all to myself...

Saturday was a work day for me...
(if you can call this work!)
It was a day that flew by, and as I made dinner I took the time
to actually think about how many hours I had been
sitting at my table working on new pieces to list.

I started the day by making some of these charms.
Vintage script on a shell bead covered in resin.
Then on to homemade donuts for Hannah and her 4 girlfriends that spent the night.
(I wake up about the time they are falling asleep!)
The house was loud, crazy, silly...
just the way we like it on a Saturday morning, and then
as quickly as they showed up on my doorstop and filled the house,
everyone left.
Not just the girls, but Duane - he had a class meeting to go to,
and Max had a play date.
You know what that meant?
I was alone on a Saturday!
That does NOT happen around here!

I checked the mail and WOOHOO my prize from
Carole's giveaway had arrived!
Could the timing be any better?
Quiet house, and now this beautiful magazine is here for me to pour threw!

If you have never seen this magazine and love
the simple style of natural beauty and white and the mix of shabby minimalist industrial farmhouse,
then I highly recommend that you treat yourself to it.
It is really the prettiest magazine (more of a book really)
that I have ever seen.
It makes me want to redecorate my house every time I go through it!

...and of course tell Carole of Maynard Greenhouse that I sent you!
I know that she always sends them out with the prettiest wrapping!

this is how my special prize arrived!

I sat right down with my coffee, in my quiet house and devoured every page!
and then I watched episode after episode of
Downton Abbey while I made necklaces.
What a great afternoon!

Look what was inside of the tissue paper...

this sweet butterfly now rests on my inspiration board!
love all of the glitter!

and the cross inspired a new round of picnik play!
The cross is wire wrapped with pearls,
all rusty, wire and pearls, a great combination!

Thank you Carole!
I love all of my presents!!
xoxooxoxo

I have a couple of more necklaces to show you but they will
have to wait until next time,
today is a busy day!
As of right now I have a couple of orders to get out
and about 1/2 dozen errands to run for some of the kids.

see you soon!
love,
Theresa

proud mom alert...

Let me tell you a little story...

it begins with a young man taking a chance on himself. and life.
He packed a bag and moved to LA.
He moved there to find a job in his field of
Environmental Science with a major in Food Systems.

He has a few friends there,
the kind of friends who are awesome enough to take him to the
Rose Bowl Flea Market his first weekend there!

yes, I was jealous.

John kinda stands out in a crowd,
dresses in fabulous vintage clothing...

all thrifted of course.

plus he has the coolest hair.

As he was shopping a booth of vintage clothing,
a young designer approached him and asked him if he would
be interested in doing a photo shoot for his new campaign!

John says "yes".
Remember,
the story begins with a young man taking a chance on himself...

(I feel like I need to add this disclaimer... John hates smoking as much as I do,
he actually had the photographer keep this cig. going for the shot!)

The photographer for the shoot
takes some shots to be sent to modeling agencies and sends
John out to meet and greet agents.

Photo by Barrett Sweger. Grooming by Diane da Silva.

within two weeks of John living in LA
he is signed as a Ford model!

He just came back from NY fashion week!
He is now taking another chance on life, himself, and his new career
and is moving to NY in April!

(closer to mom so you know that makes me happy!)

Before he left for NY he did an ad campaign for a young designer from Poland...
and this video is part of the campaign.
I laughed out loud when I saw the arm wrestling part!

from the website

The story continues...
I will keep you updated on new and exciting things coming his way!

I'm going to leave you with a beautiful fb msg. that I got from John
on Mothers Day...

Hey Mom, I just got to reading your post on 612Riverside about me graduating. I almost
teared up. I'm so lucky to have you in my life, not just as my mom, but as a close friend. It
makes me so happy to see you guys caring about the things that I'm doing with my life. My
friend asked if I called my mom today and I said "Yes, we talked for an hour". He said "I
don't think I've ever done that in my life" and all I could think was how many times that's
happened. Pretty rare for a 22 year old and his mom to be able to do. I know this summer
and beyond will be difficult for you, but I want to let you know that I love you and will be
thinking about you all so much. I'm a fortunate son.
Love you,John

beautiful inside and out.

O.k...

let me wipe my eyes and press publish.

next week a new story.

I'll tell you the story of a young woman...

Thanks for stopping by!

love,

Theresa

tulips and necklaces...

We had a 4 day weekend over here and boy has it been nice!

A dear friend stopped by with a 'spring present' of beautiful tulips
for me the other day and I had the perfect spot to
show them off.

playing with picnik,
I sure am gonna miss it :(

(sold)
I have made some new necklaces to share!

I love the light citron color of these glass beads,
just enough sunshiny yellow...

(sold)
to go with a vintage religious medal hanging from an old chandelier crystal
along with a silver bird and a heart from a vintage bracelet.

I can't even remember where I found this gold wrapped shell but it is fabulous,
perfect for summer!

I beaded it with multi colored natural glass beads with a few
larger tiger eye beads encased in bling... I love me some bling!

pretty in pink...
The bee is soldered and then I gave it a copper patina,
and that drew me to the pink beads on the table.

pinks and golds and copper and pale browns...
yum.

a pink rose with a copper heart and a brownish bead for the dangle effect :)

I'm going to leave you with the tulips...
they have really brought a bit of spring into the dining room
and into my heart!
Thanks Julie! xoxo

I have more beading to do, ideas to play with and well, you know,
laundry to put away.

(thank goodness Hannah volunteered to make dinner!)

back to work...

Thanks so much for stopping by,
I really appreciate all of you for following my little blog,
those that have been here since the beginning
and the newbies I see on the sidebar...
welcome aboard!

love,
Theresa

Vintage Inspiration Friday

Happy Friday!

Gotta get ready for "a day in the life..."
but I didn't want to miss Debra's party
so here is one of my latest projects recently listed in the shop

If I was given this trophy pin, then I don't
think I would have minded 2nd place!

To find and wear something that made someone
so happy over a hundred years ago...

priceless.

Have a fabulous weekend,
I hope to be stopping by with more to share!

love,
Theresa

Happy Valentines Day!

Sometimes it feels good to make something just for us.
So for the day of love I made us some scrap hearts to hang on the white branches
on the dining room mantle.

They are just about the only decoration that I have out for today.
But I think they do the trick.

I made the birds last year and put them back out for today.
They are made from script paper and have a tiny banner hanging from
their beaks that says I Do with little hearts.
They have turned pink do to using mod podge on top of
an ink jet print but for today that works!

so this is how I did it...
I put strips of lace on top of a piece of cheesecloth that was
on top of a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock.
make sense?

Then I sewed them across the paper.

I turned the paper over and drew hearts on the back of it.
I then cut the hearts out, and glued them to a piece of
scrapbook paper.  I did this because you would be able
to see the backsides in the mirror.

Then I hot glued jewels and aluminum letters and numbers to them,
all things that mean something to us.
There are 7 of us, and X and an O for hugs and kisses,
612 for our address and the frozen charlotte well because,
who doesn't love a frozen charlotte?
:)

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!

love,
Theresa

Carole is having a giveaway...

Wanna know how nice I really am?

Carole from Maynard Greenhouse

is sharing the new issue of one of my favorite magazines in her latest giveaway,
and I'm here to TELL you about it!

I know right?

I am putting my chances at risk all because
I love you that much!

So get over there and pay Carole a visit
and throw your name in the hat...

go ahead,

I'm putting bubble gum on the bottom of my name
to make it easier for Carole to pick me!

I said I was nice, not crazy...

love ya!

studio shots....

I have been working for days,
(o.k. it's safe to say, a couple of weeks)
on organizing and purging in my studio.

After the post about not focusing, I had an epiphany...
maybe I can't focus because I have too much stuff laying around
that I just don't use in my work anymore.

So I purged...
and yet, the room was still full of the treasures
that I have collected for my creations,
so I purged some more...
and this is what I came up with.

ALERT!
lots of pictures ahead!

The basket is full of printed photos, and pictures to collage,
the suitcase is full of ribbons and well,
let's just say,
everything is full and leave it at that!
;)

inspiration board,

junk that I obviously could not part with :)

a tool tray full of thread and a tool box full of trinkets.
In the summer I use the large glass jar at the farmers market to hold my soap.

I hung this old baseball bat bag to use as my trash can next to my chair.

burlap love, in a special gift of a wire laundry basket.
love.

"Mom, show them how cute I am!"

done:)

The galvanized trash can?
Full of fabric of course!

I even made a new lamp for the space,
love.

Where I'll be sitting for most of today...

The locker baskets are full of shipping supplies, more stamps, flowers, and banners, and
whatever else needed to be thrown in them!

The benches are from the dining room table, we now have chairs there but I can't wait for
garage sales so that I can replace the benches.
Or find some decent shelves??????

The red post box that used to hang on the front porch now holds
receipts, my tax man is gonna love me next year!

Book, books and more books for collage...

love the ladies bathroom sign I got last year for my bday!

The curtain in front of this work table hides plastic tubs,
which are useful but UGLY.
The suitcase is full of glass in muffin tins for soldering and the
toolbox is full of scissors, pencils and such.

stamps and doodads hang from a shoe bag...
This doorway leads to our upstairs and the bedrooms.

oh look, there she is again :)

view from the other side of the bigger work table.
There is a huge pocket door where the curtain hangs,
but it is a pain to open and shut all of the time to get through
to the upstairs so I hung a makeshift curtain from a drop cloth.
It is only pinned in place right now because I wanted to make sure it would work.
Time to sew it up...
it hides the mess that I USED to make!

second bag that I made, now holds sewing scraps and trash.

My biggest complaint about the space... too many dressers!
They do the job though of corralling the necessary but not
necessarily pretty supplies, one day I hope for shelving.
one can hope...

more fabric and string.
I can't get that last handle off of the buffet so that I can put the glass one on...
any suggestions?

this fabulous lady was the photo that got the whole ball rolling
when I started playing with collage...
I think she is screaming...
adorn me with jewels and lots of rouge,
so I have quite a few times!

Danielle made this collage and left it behind..
lucky me!

I even sorted through the jewels by metals and purposes,
I think that some more organized person must have
entered my body because this is beyond my organizational skill level!

Look at this stuff
Isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the girl
The girl who has ev'rything?
Look at this trove
Treasures untold
How many wonders can one cavern hold?
Lookin' around here you'd think
(Sure) she's got everything

I've got gadgets and gizmos aplenty
I've got whozits and whatzits galore
(You want thingamabobs?
I got twenty)
But who cares?
No big deal
I want more

just a little number from The Little Mermaid,
that was playing around in my head
while I sorted through the goods!

So there you have it,
the studio is clean and ready for some new creations
to come from it!
I know that it would never make it into WWC but for me,
it makes me happy to have this little space to do what I love.

I am hoping beyond hope
that I can turn over a new leaf and keep it organized.
Those who know me well
and especially those who live with me
probably have a betting pool going on how long it will stay like this.

Winter has finally returned to MI. and it is very cold but sunshiny
and we actually have snow on the ground!
Winter can be tough, but for me
I would rather see snow
than the mud that has been around here lately.

So today, a fire in the fireplace,
music from Pandora, probably a movie with the kids,
and a whole lot of creating going on here @ 612!

Thank you for stopping by for the tour and as always
for your wonderful comments...
they always make me smile!

love,
Theresa
