rosette or no rosette?

When it comes to floral arrangements, if you can call this one, I am a simple kind of girl. I had made a basket for the front door with a nest and bird and leaves and white pumpkins and multiple rosettes... oh my gosh, it was waaaaay too fussy for me! So I got the apple bag off of the barn and filled it with eucalyptus, which smells so wonderful and some fake (groan) greens for the door. but now I am questioning the whole rosette thing... gasp! I know right?!!
I really do love the whole simple look of all of the beautiful European blogs and of course Jeanne de Arc, I believe I told you already that I am smitten with that book! So I tried it without the rosette and well... to rosette or not? can you help a girl out?

Here's a wider shot of the porch, not all of it though, I left out Max's scooter and Hannah's razor and well a leaf or 100! Now looking at the chalkboard maybe that has to go too... an I going too far, getting rid of a chalkboard? ;o

This has been an AMAZING day for me... I don't want this to sound like I'm bragging or anything but all in one day I have been informed that I have won 3 giveaways!!! 3!!! I cannot even believe it! Truly I don't really even enter that many, but the ones I do are the ones that have THE GOODS... you know what I mean... THE GOODS!!! Thank you Carola, Joy and Jan, I am so thrilled! I will share pics in a post I promise. Right now I am doing the most obnoxious happy dance ever!

Thanks for stopping in... and remember I could use some help with that bag! Theresa xoxo

  1. I think it looks wonderful. I bought an apple basket similar to yours while I was in Brimfield in May for exactly that purpose. It hasn't been off my front door since I came back to Texas. I love it.

    Smiles,

    Carol

  4. Leave the rosette and the blackboard. The colors compliment each other and give it a lovely balance.

  5. I Love the Rosette ~ but it does looks good either way.... Lovin Your Porch Vignette too, can't wait to see what the vote is

  6. I like them both but I think what is throwing you is that they are both the same size and hung at the same height so visually you have just 2 blocks of space side by side. We cannot see what it to the left of door but if there is nothing you are too "heavy" to the right.

I think they should be separated but without seeing the rest of porch....?
I say no rosette or at least rosette(S) tied off to the side, at base of handle, that way you notice basket, not just rosette, like you do now.

OR I could be completely wrong...hehe

Congrats on your 3 wins. Perhaps should be here gambling?

    xx

  8. I love your basket. I just bought one at the flea market this summer and LOVE it. I have it hanging on an old door in my living room.

I think I prefer it without the rosette just because I love the simplicity of the basket itself.

  14. i do solemnly vote for the rosette! but...i do think it would look even better if it was asymmetric, maybe - could it be placed off to one side?!? i really love the chalkboard, too...but i think i'd put it elsewhere for now:) so that's just my 2 cents!

  17. ...hey rosette Queen!!
...I happen to like the rosette but maybe you could try it in the cream burlap and then grunge it up a bit with some walnut dye((a bit darker than coffee))
I think it's the off color of the burlap with the basket and the lovely creamy frame that throws it off just a bit...
But maybe in cream & grunging it would be fab??!!
Also, Maybe try it around your flower urn instead??
Either way, I adore the basket & the chalkboard:)

  18. First, what a scrumptiously creative piece you've put together, Theresa! I personally think that the rosette helps it to "hold its own" in contrast to the lovely vignette you've got going on to the side of the door! Love your imagination! Xo, Sue

  23. Hey Theresa! I saw the other day that you had won Carola's giveback! She is so awesome and sweet I did a swap with her this summer. I was blessed to get one of her charms! I blogged about our swap just a few posts back. Check it out! Theresa you deserve to win 3 of them! I'm thinking I like the rosette, but it could be the color throwing you off! Just my thoughts. Go on one of our backroads and get some greens off a pine tree! Just another thought! lol Take care, XO Fran.

  24. Dear Theresa,
First of all thank you for paying me a visit and leaving such a sweet comment!
I came here to thank my visitor but what did I know! You had me browsing through your blog like crazy... I filled my eyes with so many beautiful things! You are doing a fabulous job!
So, while I am here I must usurp my part of the comment section and praise your work! I think that your basket is perfect with the rosette and the greens! But maybe it's just me - I am in love with rosettes! And (being a teacher) I would certainly not get rid of that chalkboard!!

  27. That apple bag is such a cool piece and makes for a great arrangement on your door. My first thought was that I liked it better without the rosette but the more I looked I seemed to go back to the rosette (I'm a lot of help :) ) Either way looks wonderful!!
    Have a great weekend.

  28. Theresa - that is my kind of flower arranging, too. I think it looks fab!!! Great idea. And the eucalyptus smell is something else. Wish there were some trees around where I live.
Thanks for commenting on my leaf roses post!
