I love to visit pinterest and all of my favorite blogs for inspiration, but recently I decided to
check out my own pics for a jolt of inspiration
(like a walk down memory lane)
and I think it's time to plug in the soldering iron again...
could my kids recent moves be what draws me to this one?
and then I came across this bag, and now I want to plug in my sewing machine...
I have more sweaters...
and more skirts for more pillows...
but I also have a few more of these vintage trophy ribbons in my stash...
and then Santa brought me a dremel for Christmas...
(we are now eating with plastic silverware!)
At the moment, I am making a few special orders with special phrases
of this Valentine heart...
Is it a bad thing to want to create with so many different mediums?
I didn't even bring up the collage work and assemblage that I want to do...
At times I question my direction as an artist and small business owner.
Am I really doing myself any favors by going in so many different directions?
When I have tried to concentrate on only one or two things,
I find myself feeling antsy,
or feeling maybe a bit more squirrely than antsy actually.
There is that one thing that always comes into play when I make something,
making something new from something old, creating something it was never intended to be.
Did you know that when you type in repurposed it comes up as misspelled?
It's not recognized as a word except with those of us
who can't help but look at something
and think...
what if I did this to that, and then put this here, and cut this off...
you get the picture, right?
I knew that you did :)
you get me... thank you for that!
so be it upcycled, repurposed, recycled, or whatever the spell check will accept,
I will surely be doing more of it starting next week!
Gotta get my head back in the game so to speak.
til next time,
love,
Theresa xoxoxoox

Theresa, I have a feeling you are not the only one questioning your direction. Yesterday I thought my head would explode with all the beautiful things I saw and ideas I wanted to try. Is there any one that pulls at the heartstrings a bit more than the others? The great thing is the other directions will always be there waiting for you. Or can you mesh a few of your ideas together...add soldering to an assemblage, add jewelry to a pillow or purse?

I suffer from that, there are so many things I am inspired by and want to try! When I first started blogging it was all about my porcelain miniature dolls. Not today! I haven't made a doll in over a year, I sew, alter, repurpose, make jewelry, treasure hunt, work with wood, paper, fabric, much like you, and now I am going to learn to solder!
ReplyDeleteHere's to a wonderful new year filled with inspiration! Happy creating!
xxoo
Some nights I sit I bed with my head spinning with ideas and then I can't sleep. At least you have something to show for your scrambled ideas. I love it all, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Theresa, I'm with you, there are just too many wheels spinning in the head ~ I Love seeing all the fabulous (yes, I still say fabulous even thou it is out for 2012) creative treasures, how can you decide which route to do.... I was feeling that same way, until I took out the paper clay that I had worked with before, then I had a few request for special orders, I tell you, I had a spark inside me, that makes me not want to stop sculpting with the clay, I have now been making my own clay (since creative paper clay can be quite expensive when you use 4 packages in 1 item) anyway, I think anything & Everything you create with your very talented hands & heart will be Fab! PS. I am so jealous that Santa brought you a Dremel!

oh we are kindred spirits for sure sistah!! I JUST plugged in my solder iron for the first time in 5 years! then there's my sewing machine collecting dust but calling my name ever so loudly. LOL! then there's those custom Inspiration Holder orders that i need to get to but... oh my....i have some things on my "work table" that catch my eye every time i walk into my studio! Yikes! what's a girl to do? i'm with YOU in that sometimes i feel like i need to "focus" more on creating my "signature pieces" and not be all "scattered about" but it is ever so hard to do! so...i just give into it and let the inspiration take me on whatever path it leads me that day. we're "free spirits" aren't we? i'm loving ALL of your creations as scattered about as they are! Happy (creative) "trails" to you! ;)
ReplyDeleteDear Theresa, OH I love your bottles, and the solderings- the one with the blue bird is wonderful- and also love all your other creations--just like I like to go in many directions myself- and like Angie say ,we can alwayes mix and match the different medies to one creation.

I am loving all of your projects Theresa, especially that little blue bird. I'm itching to do some soldering myself but there is so much to do before I can get lost in another project. Hope you are having a happy day!

Hi Theresa,
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely things!! You always inspire me with your creativity! And I don't think it's a bad thing to have many different mediums. It keeps things fresh and prevents boredom. I felt the same way when I had been doing jewelry for a couple of years, I needed to branch off into a different direction and try something new. If I didn't, I think eventually I would have stopped jewelry design forever.
And besides, you are super talented, you have to create the things you do so well!
Hope you have a wonderful day.
Sincerely,
Melinda
Glad one of us is thinking straight up. I am still all wonky.... and wonky is in there! :D

I don't think you are squirrely at all, but a creative person with all kinds of ideas. I'm a mother of three and I've noticed a change in me also. I love your site and etsy. Looking forward to all your wonderful creations and can't wait to see what's next.

Oh Theresa, you always inspire me. those pillows are amazing and the jewelry is too! thanks for linking up to the party! xoxo
ReplyDeleteMy first thought reading this - other than that your stuff is ALL amazing! - is "Thank God I am not the only one who is like this!!!!"
ReplyDeleteGirly...that's not a squirrel alert...that's just your artist's heart beating! I can't think of anyone else who could dream that many ideas...and bring them all to reality. Me...I dream it up...then forget where I put it!
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
Deb
LOL! I can totally relate. I am always darting off in different directions. I am a jack of all trades, master of none I fear...oh well, that must just be who I am, so I am glad to know others share my affliction (misery loves company, right?).
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend doing whatever suits your fancy,
Judy
I think that 's normal for an artist that creates with vintage and repurposes. We have to see what the universe sends us and then decide what to do with it.
ReplyDeleteBy the way...........
I love all your "stuff"!!!!!!
Oh man, that is the story of my life! I have arty friends who insist that you find your nietch and stick with it if you want to get anywhere. But I'm here there and everywhere with my own work too. I want to make it all!
ReplyDeleteHey Theresa! I love this post!! I have alot in my head too!! LOL But I still go back to simple ways!! My big thing right now is trying to organize all those materials of this and that. Things I just know I can re-create something in to something else!! I think the New Year gets us all pumped up and then life throughout the year gets to us!! But then my creating is what helps me the most! LOL Are you still with me? Just keep creating like you do and besides I think also people like a wide variety of things! Thank God!!! XOXO Love, Fran.
