it's not just a tree, it's an event!

We went on a winter wonderland trip to get our Christmas tree today.  We always like to have snow on the ground when we cut down our tree, well today we are in the midst of a winter storm and we figured it's the perfect day to get our tree!

These beauties and Hannah and Max became fast friends!  They took us back into the fields in a covered wagon, it was magical.  I know that sounds sappy, but I can't help it.  Even losing my glasses while carrying the tree couldn't make it go sour.  (luckily they were just cheapo reading glasses).

The snow was beautiful and the kids had a great time, isn't that what it's all about?  The roads on the way there probably deterred many people from heading out, we saw 5 cars in the ditch on the way there!  We just took it slow, and Duane is a great driver so after a white knuckled ride we were safe and sound at the tree farm.  We didn't realize that the roads were so bad until we got on the highway...

Max and Hannah cutting down the tree lumber jack style...

Dad taking over!

winter wonderland I tell you!

loved our ride.

Thank you Prince and Ben!

The tree is waiting on the porch to be brought inside tomorrow.  We are expecting more snow during the night...  and the kids are doing the 'no school snow-dance'.
This is winter in the midwest!!!

Have a warm, beautiful Sunday night!  Theresa xoxo

  17. Now that is a memory to cherish! I'm glad you made it safely. How much fun is that! The horse drawn wagon, cutting down your own tree and all during a snow storm. Stay warm and enjoy decorating! p.s. - Here's how our tree story starts....It was a hot December day, near 80, so we through on some shorts and headed to the Home Depot to pick out a tree..." can you tell the difference? lol

  18. Amazing pictures. It looks like such a fun time. I don't know where in the Midwest you are, but in the Twin Cities we had SOOOOOOOO much snow this weekend. The most we've had in years.
We have not taken our kids to get a tree yet... we've done the fake one. Looks like fun family memories though so perhaps we'll have to do that next year.

  19. You make a simple task of choosing a Christmas Tree into a Magical Event ~ Love all the Photos, so how did you fare in Inches? Only about 6" here, but I stayed off the roads, I heard they were Very Icy.... I would imagine the Snow Day Dance worked out well for the kids, I know My Grand Memphys had No school today, because of the icy roads & the cold.... Would you believe I still Don't have a tree up ~ I decided to start moving furniture around this weekend & Still Not done.... By the weekend, I hope to be in Full Festive Mod!
    Stay Warm

  21. Seriously, this is the best Christmas post I have seen. The horses, the snow, cutting down the tree....it's the perfect Christmas tradition!! I think it's the kind of Christmas memories we would all love our kids to have....unfortunately Alex's idea of getting a Christmas tree involves going down to the basement and carrying it upstairs.
Great photos. I'm glad you made it there and back safely. I hate those white knuckle kind of drives.
    Have a great day.

  25. What a wonderful tradition Theresa! A magical day for sure! I fell in love with Prince and Ben. When we ranched, we used to feed the cows with a team and sleigh in Winter. Our guys were named Duke and Dan. I love team horses...such gentle giants.
I went back to see some of your beautiful decorating and all the beautiful things you have been creating, and what a treat. Everything is so lovely.
